Joao Martins, Senior Ecologist - Environment & Planning
Joao is a Senior Ecologist with 13 years’ experience in ecological research, monitoring and impact assessment in Germany, Portugal and Ireland. He has
a background in freshwater ecology, having been part of monitoring teams for the EU Water Framework Direc琀椀ve (WFD), as well as in several other
projects of scien琀椀昀椀c nature, dealing with a range of ecological issues, such as: river regula琀椀on, river fragmenta琀椀on, catchment management, nutrient
enrichment, protected species pressures and threats, and invasive species.
Áine Sands, Senior Ecologist - Environment & Planning
Áine joined TOBIN’s Environment and Planning division in 2020. She holds an Honours Degree in Applied Ecology and has 10 years post-graduate
experience in Ecology and Environmental Consultancy and also holds a full CIEEM Membership. Áine has predominantly been involved in large
Public and Private infrastructure projects which she has prepared numerous Screenings for Appropriate Assessments, Natura Impact Statements and
Ecological Impact Assessments. Áine has a strong understanding of Na琀椀onal and European legisla琀椀on and is cognisant of relevant rulings by the Court
of Jus琀椀ce of the European Union (CJEU) associated with biodiversity and Appropriate Assessment. She also has experience in undertaking ecological
surveys for protected habitats and species and is con昀椀dently able to analyse the data to inform ecological assessments.
Sinead O’Reilly, Senior Ecologist - Environment & Planning
Sinead is a quali昀椀ed and experienced consultant with over 10 years’ post-graduate experience in 昀椀sheries research and environmental consultancy
in Ireland. Sinead has been involved in large public and private infrastructure projects where she carried out screenings for Appropriate Assessments,
Natura Impact Statements, Invasive Species management plans and Ecological Impact Assessments for proposed developments. She has a background
in Fisheries Research and Freshwater Ecology. She has an Honours Degree in Zoology from UCD and also Research Masters with Glasgow University
where she studied poten琀椀al eradica琀椀on methods on the invasive American Signal Cray昀椀sh. She has several years’ 昀椀eld experience working on the
rivers, lakes, estuaries and canals across Ireland studying freshwater and marine 昀椀sh and their habitats.
