Impact on Local Communities
Some additional sample projects where we have had a positive impact on local communities include the following:
Vartry Water Treatment Plant & Reservoir Intake Works:
Commissioning works were completed to the Vartry WTP & Reservoir Intake Works which facilitated the removal of
7 No. water supply zones from the EPA’s Remedial Action List. The Vartry WTP provides a treated water drinking
supply of 80 million litres of water per day to circa 200,000 people in North Wicklow & South Dublin.
TOBIN provided civil & structural design services for the main works Contractor throughout the duration of the project.
National Water Rehabilitation Programme:
At present, it is estimated that Uisce Eireann currently loses circa 38% of all treated water through leaks before it
reaches out taps. Uisce Eireann is on track to reduce this leakage to 25% by 2040. TOBIN are currently providing
design services for Warde & Burke on the National Rehabilitation Programme for the South West Area including
Cork, Kerry, Limerick & Clare. To date, the programme has saved 166 million litres of water daily which equates to
enough water to 昀椀ll 66 Olympic-size swimming pools every day. TOBIN provided design solutions for the replacement
of circa 450km of watermains which it is estimated would result in a saving of over 3.6 million litres of water per day
which equates to enough water to 昀椀ll 1.5 Olympic-size swimming pools every day.
