Project Sustainability Statements
As part of our accredited Environmental Management System, TOBIN sta昀昀 complete
project speci昀椀c Project Sustainability Statements. The purpose of the Project
Sustainability Statement is to provide a concise overview of any initiatives on a project
which assists in achieving the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals
(SDGs) which we have adopted as a framework to track and record various aspects of
sustainability on our projects.
PROJECT SUSTAINABILITY STATEMENT
1
It is our policy to maximise the bene昀椀cial e昀昀ects of our activities on our environment, to
promote sustainable solutions, and to minimise any harmful e昀昀ects in the communities
and locations in which we deliver our services.
We work with all project stakeholders to foster this value and we show leadership by
promoting best environmental practices.
It is noted and accepted that not all of the 17 SDGs will apply to TOBIN projects and as
such our focus areas align with the following UN SDGs. The promotion of applicable
initiatives is undertaken in collaboration with our Clients and other project stakeholders
and these are re昀氀ected in the Project Sustainability Statements. Our focus areas align
with the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).
Derryadd Wind Farm
Client: Bord na Móna Powergen Ltd.
Project Description: The proposed Wind Farm
comprises the construction of 22 no. wind turbines and
ancillary works. Each wind turbine has the capacity to
generate 6MW of electricity which is a combined generation
of 132MW to supply to the national grid.
Project Sustainability
Derryadd Wind Farm is predicted to generate enough Affordable and Clean Energy to power the equivalent of approximately
96,360 Irish households with electricity every year over the 30-year operational life cycle of the wind farm.
The construction of this Innovative strategic Infrastructure is anticipated to take 30 months and is set to create employment
for up to 120 people. Materials will be locally sourced throughout construction where feasible, supporting local Industry,
economic development and human well-being.
As part of the Derryadd Wind Farm, approx. 25 km of amenity access tracks, both pedestrian and cycling tracks, are proposed.
Of which, 7.5km will tie directly into the existing greenways, visitor centre and wilderness park surrounding the wind farm. In
addition, 4 new amenity car parks are to be constructed to further encourage the use of these recreational facilities and
promote Good Health and Well-being for the surrounding communities. In addition, a Community Gain Schemes will be
established which will be made available each calendar year for community led projects in the local area. The aim of this scheme
is to provide financial assistance to local communities and not-for-profit organisations.
The Wind Farm's electrical output will result in the avoidance of GHG emissions that would otherwise occur through generation
from fossil fuel sources i.e. peat, coal and oil. Pair this with the client’s initiative to greening business and enterprise,
transitioning this once bog land fossil fuel generator into a clean renewable energy development. This business model perfectly
aligning with Irelands Carbon Action plan.
