Impact on Local Communities
Some additional sample projects where we have had a positive impact on local
communities include the following:
Abstraction Licensing Programme
TOBIN are currently undertaking a pilot project with Uisce Éireann on a new EPA
licensing regime for water abstractions. This project will bring together, for the 昀椀rst
time, an assessment of the impact of water abstractions on riparian landowners, and
the impact on the environment.
Cli昀昀s of Moher Coastal Walk Management Plan
TOBIN are working with Clare County Council to develop a Management Plan for the
future management of the Cli昀昀s of Moher Coastal Walk. This Management Plan includes
an assessment of current compensation payments to landowners, and the development
of an equitable future model for landowner compensation. The Management Plan also
includes an assessment of the economic bene昀椀ts of the Coastal Walk on communities
from Doolin to Liscannor and makes proposals for sustainable transport options.
GOAL Water-Share Ireland
TOBIN are delighted to be involved with GOAL’s Water-Share Ireland initiative, providing
technical support to GOAL. Water-Share Ireland is an alliance of Irish water stakeholders
and is collaborating with GOAL to deliver life-changing Water, Sanitation and Health
(WASH) programmes in the world’s most dependent communities. Currently WaterShare Ireland is assisting GOAL programmes in Uganda, Sierra Leone, Zimbabwe and
Syria. Approximately 2.2 billion people globally (27% of the world’s population) lack
access to safe drinking water.
Derryvoghy & PBKS Group Water Scheme (GWS)
Amalgamation Project
TOBIN were appointed by Mayo County Council as the Engineering Service Provider
(ESP) for the Derryvoghy & PBKS Group Water Scheme (GWS) Amalgamation
Project. The Derryvoghy GWS was listed on the DHPLG’s Rural Water RAL due to an
inadequate treatment process and a failure to meet the Drinking Water Regulations
for chemical and indicator parameters and is directly impacted by having a vulnerable

source which carries a high risk of contamination with Cryptosporidium. TOBIN were
responsible for design, procurement and construction stage supervision stages of the
project. The project was completed in February 2024. The project ensures access to
safe drinking water for the consumers and through targeted leakage reduction, resulted
in a circa 40% saving on water usage within the scheme.
Active Travel Schemes
TOBIN are involved in a large number of Active Travel Schemes, which provide safer
connectivity within urban areas for walking and cycling, bene昀椀ting the whole community
through reduced emissions and a more active population. Samples of such projects
